Maybe it's not a look of disinterest so much as it's a look of cluelessness. This isn't even about last night's game. This has been an issue for years. The team has checked out on him. There's nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise.
I really don't understand how or why people don't think he's been given an adequate chance. He is 138-246. 108 games under .500 and he's the guy who gets the benefit of doubt. Are you kidding me?
Rick Sund is adamant that this season is a barometer. I don't know how much more he needs to see. There has to be a change somewhere and since they missed the trade deadline, they need to look at a coaching change. Teams who have had far greater success than the Hawks have let coaches who consistently produced 50 win seasons go without batting an eyelash. It's time for the Spirit to man up and make a change.
Update: It's really unfair for me to say a man deserves to be fired and not give several reasons.
1. His offense is offensive. To appreciate how truly ineffective the offense really is, you need only watch our opponents run their offense. Trust me it will make you jealous.
2. His inability to develop players. We are almost two years in and we still have no idea if Acie Law is a legitimate NBA player. It's very easy to say when a player gets a chance he has to produce, but let's be realistic for one moment. I don't know of any player who can play 3 or 4 minutes in one game then not play the next 3 or 4 games at all and still produce. It doesn't work like that.
3. He's taken about 3 or 4 years off of Joe Johnson's career. Okay that's probably not true. But at this point he has to be able to find minutes for Joe to rest. There was no reason at all for Joe to have been in that game last night in the 4th quarter when the team was down 20 something points. No reason at all!
4. The players do not respond to him. They just don't. If you've watched a game you know this.
5. His substitutions and rotations suck.
6. He clearly doesn't watch the game as it unfolds which is directly related to #5.
7. He's 108 games under .500. I mentioned this earlier, but it needs to be repeated.

Tell us how you really feel. I truly want this guy to go away. I can't take it anymore. REALLY! Kenny Smith, Avery Johnson, an assistant coach...I don't care who it is, but I'm at the point of saying - he's SAPPING my desire to be a Hawks fan and to attend these games and that's saying EVERYTHING. I have loved this franchise since '84.... ahhhhhhhh!
a vent classic with the pink slip. it is an oldie but a goodie.
You all know I can make excuses for just about anyone. I have no excuses for why Mike Woodson is still gainfully employed. I know it's not all his fault, but in pro sports coaches are hired to be fired. Unless you work for the Utah Jazz or the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's time for a change then we can really see if it's the coach, or if it's the players.
I really hate I had to drag out my pink slip from last season, but it had to be done. I'm just about ready to take off my rose colored glasses.
you can't start a post saying Mike Woodson you are fired. I got so happy and then realized you were venting.
Coco, I will say this. I said that 2008 shouldn't have ended - it was a banner year for Hawks fans (from Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2008) and that's with Josh Childress leaving AND Mike Woodson getting re-signed.
That's when you put on your rose colored glasses as I recall. Take them off...maybe those glasses are the reason we have played like the Collier Park rec league team for most of 2009.
Let's all get on one accord and press this organization to get rid of Mike Woodson. If only I can get Rick Sund to give me 30 minutes of time to present my Powerpoint presentation for why Woody must go....
Okay that's why he should be fired but here's why he won't be.
The Hawks are currently 33-25, good for 4th seed in the East. Wait a minute did you catch that fourth seed! As long as they don't fall down to 7th or 8th or, God forbid, out of the playoffs then I think his job is safe.
Add to that they'll probably play either Miami, Philly, or Detroit in the first round. They should EASILY beat any of those teams. So you now have a team that posts the best record they've had in a little while AND advances to the second round of the playoffs. Come on guys, he's not going anywhere.
