The Hawks are playing like a team that actually wants to make the playoffs.
I'm so proud!
Yeah, I probably should go into more detail, but I'm being a bit lazy. I'll go more in depth soon!
For now, just know that the Hawks have a 2.5 game lead over the Nets for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East!
If we lose to the Grizzlies tomorrow, forget about the first sentence of this post!

Over The Counter Paternity Tests
Wow! I knew it was just a matter of time before they came up with something like this, and it's only $30 for the test, $119 for the analysis! This is a dream come true for all of those women who have to go on Maury with 6 or 7 possible baby's daddy's.
Now you can be a skank and the whole world doesn't have to know about it. This might mean the end for old Maury.
That's a damn shame.

CP3
Chris Paul is really, really good. I would photoshop a picture of him with a Hawks jersey on (something I shouldn't have to photoshop because it should be a reality) But it would probably make me cry.

The Mavs Are Done!
The Dallas Mavericks are done! I'm not normally a doom and gloom type of person, but I don't see how they can finish this season with anything more than ping pong balls.
Dirk got hurt today in the game against the San Antonio Spurs and he's expected to miss at least 2 weeks. If the Mavericks were in the Eastern Conference they'd be fine, but they aren't, so they won't be fine. Missing two weeks out west is like missing 2 months in this particular season. They are barely holding on to the 7th seed as it is! Golden State and Denver are lurking and I don't think Dallas has enough left to stop them from jumping ahead of them.
Don't get me wrong, they still have very good talent in Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse and Jason Terry, but Avery Johnson's attention to detail (micromanagement) may not allow them to be successful.
We all know Jason Kidd is offensively challenged on most nights. If I were a player I'd probably sit down and watch him shoot while I was supposed to be guarding him. He'd have to REALLY prove to me that he's on fire before I exerted a lot of energy trying to take away his shot. Anyway, you don't trade for Jason Kidd with the expectation that he's going to give you 30 a night. You trade for him so that he can get the other players easy buckets. Avery doesn't seem to understand that. He kept Kidd on the bench for waaaay too long against the Spurs. I assume because he wanted offense on the floor. Maybe he doesn't know that Kidd is one of the best at creating offense for other players. If you aren't going to play him when you need to score, then when the hell are you going to play him? I really don't understand what Avery's game plan is with Kidd. Was he even on board with this Kidd deal in the first place? He certainly doesn't act like it. He sat him for the last 30 seconds in a game against the Spurs shortly after they traded for him, then with a little over 4 minutes left in the 3rd qtr today against the Spurs, he sat Kidd with a 5 point lead and by the time he brought him back in the beginning of the 4th they were down 7. (run on)
Whether Avery likes it or not, Kidd is an asset to have on the floor during critical moments of the game. If you weren't going to use him when it's winning time, then you may as well have kept Devin Harris who was cheaper and younger.
Unless Dirk miraculously heals within a couple of days, I think its a wrap for the Mavs. Oh well, there's always next year.

Random Stuff
My thoughts on why the NBA can't reseed the playoffs by league wide record.
I'm wondering why I picked O.J. Mayo over Michael Beasley.
LeBron is already the Cavs all time leading scorer. I don't know if that says more about LeBron or the Cavs, but it speaks volumes.
The Hawks need to win tomorrow night.
Jay Wright is handsome and that's reason enough for me to root for Villanova.

The All Star Version of Joe Johnson is Back.
The Hawks beat the Wizards tonight for their 3rd straight victory. Watch out Houston, we're streaking too!
Joe Johnson has been an All Star of late. I was somewhat critical of Joe early in the season. Hell, he was playing like crap! Well now that Joe has picked up his play considerably (not that its led to a plethora of wins) Woody wants to know where people like myself are now.
Hawks coach Mike Woodson has a question for all those people who were critical of his captain around the All-Star break.
"Where are they now?" he said, shaking his head. "Where are they now?"
"Where are they now?" he said, shaking his head. "Where are they now?"
We're still here Woody. The fact that Joe has picked up his play doesn't erase the performances he had prior to these last 7 games. He wasn't playing at an All Star level when he was selected to the All Star game. When people pointed that out they weren't necessarily taking a shot at Joe. We were just wondering aloud who the hell was impersonating him.
He's trying to will this team into the playoffs," Woodson said. "His focus has been as good as I've seen it, on both ends of the floor. And I think having Mike has really given him a different look in terms of how teams are defending him.
"But he's been on top of his game here lately, and if we're going to do what we need to do [for the postseason], that's the way it has to be every night."
"But he's been on top of his game here lately, and if we're going to do what we need to do [for the postseason], that's the way it has to be every night."
Yeah he's trying to will the team into the playoffs now, but is it asking too much for the All Star of the team to try to will his team into the playoffs in the beginning and middle of the season? It would have been nice if he had this new found will before the Hawks fell double digit games under .500. Of course it's not all Joe's fault. Some, if not most of this is on you Woody. Joe isn't going to be any good to the Hawks if they make the playoffs if you insist on playing him throughout the whole game. If Phil can find time to rest Kobe, I'm sure you can find a couple of minutes for Joe. I'm just sayin.....

Twenty and Counting
The Rockets won their 20th straight game defeating my reeling yet very much still alive in the playoff hunt Atlanta Hawks. They had their chances despite abysmal, and I mean abysmal play by everyone not named Joe Johnson, Josh Smith or Al Horford. Our bench didn't score a field goal!!!!! All four of their points came from Za Za Pachullia free throws! Really Josh Childress??? Amazingly, the Hawks still had a chance to win, but unfortunately bad teams don't know how to win winnable games against formidable opponents.
The Rockets win streak isn't going to mean anything if they don't get out of the first round of the playoffs. I'm pulling for the Rockets these days, I really am. Not because I'm a Rockets fan, but because I want to be right
The Nets beat the Cavs tonight despite LeBron going for 42, 11 and 7 so I guess that puts them back in the 8th seed ahead of us. It's a damn shame that you can lose 7 out of 10 games and still be in the playoff hunt. Like I said before, you have to try to not make the playoffs in the East and even then you still might get in.
Fellas calm down!! These games don't count!

Take that Kobe!!
So LeBron dropped 50 in the Garden on the Knicks tonight! I know these Knicks suck, but 50 is 50 and that's impressive. I knew he'd have a big game, because now that it is widely acknowledged that the MVP will go to either him or Kobe he has to one up 24 or at least attempt to. Kobe had 52 on Sunday so of course LeBron had to explode his next time out and he did just that.
I know LeBron is good, but Mike Brown needs to at least ACT like a coach and not a fan. He says stuff like this all the time:
“You can’t take it for granted because he’s that good. He’s just a great player,” Cavs coach Mike Brown said. “I try not to because coaching a guy like that, working with a guy like that, it’s probably a once in a lifetime deal. You just try to take advantage of every second that you’re with him"
I know coaches heap praises upon their best players sometimes, but when he says things like that or the one year when he said LeBron allows him to coach him and etc. it becomes obvious that he is just a puppet for LeBron and he's only going to be there as long as LBJ wants him there. He really needs to learn how to be in aw of LeBron in private. I'm just sayin.....

Brett Favre Retired
Apparently nothing else in the world of sports is worth mentioning. I know Mike Tirico and John Madden are devastated!
Since nothing else is important, I'm not even going to tell you how the Hawks lost to the Warriors, because its not important. Brett Favre retired!
I'm also not going to tell you how I saw Sekou Smith before game tonight and I gave him a hug and told him it was going to be okay. We had a good laugh, because we both know its probably not going to be okay. The fact that the Hawks have driven him to the brink of insanity is not worth mentioning. Brett Favre retired in case you hadn't heard.
ESPN interviewed everyone who ever played with Brett Favre (who retired by the way)
Apparently he was WAY cooler than any of us will ever know. Or care to know.

Kobe or LeBron???
The Hawks lost to the Celtics tonight, but whatever. Their playoff position is no worse than it was yesterday because in the East it's virtually impossible to take yourself out of contention.
Anyway, I don't want to talk about them. If you don't know what's wrong with this team by now, you never will.
LeBron scored 37 points earlier today in a win over the Bulls. You might be thinking it's the Bulls so who cares, but trust me its deeper than that. Every time I watch LeBron I'm amazed at how good he is! He makes it look so effortless that it's mind boggling. Its not always pretty, but its more than effective. Last year Kobe was the best player in the league hands down, but LeBron has closed the gap considerably. I mean, if you wanted to argue that Bron is the best player, I couldn't tell you you're way off base. There are a number of games you can refer to in order to state your case, but Kobe is still the best for now. For now.
Not to be outdone by Lebron on this fine Sunday, Kobe had himself a 52 point game against the Mavericks. I knew Kobe would give the Mavs hell for two reasons. 1) He feasts on them, remember 62 thru 3 quarters. 2)LeBron had just put on a show on national tv.
Kobe is all about a challenge so I knew he'd try to one up LeBron, and he did just that.
Kobe and LeBron are just better than everyone else. Imagine if they meet in the NBA Finals. Trust me when I tell you this is David Stern's dream match up. Hell, this is my dream match up! I know a lot of people think the East will come down to Boston and Detroit, but I'm not convinced.
In the NBA unlike any other professional league, if you have the best player you always have a chance. Guess what, when the playoffs start in the East LeBron will be the best player by a country mile. Add that to the fact that he BELIEVES the trade they made for Ben Wallace and Wally Skdhsojrjssjdfljss made them better, and the Cavs are dangerous. Detroit will still be coached by Flip Saunders which puts them at a decided disadvantage. Boston's situation, just seems too good to be true. Normally things that seem too good to be true, are just that.
As for the Lakers, the same thing applies. Kobe BELIEVES the trade they made for Pau Gasol made them better and he's right. Plus, Kobe is a killer!
Kobe will have a decidedly tougher road to the Finals if this dream match up is to be, but I think the Lakers are up for the challenge.
The MVP race will come down to Kobe and LeBron. Chris Paul definitely deserves some consideration, but this is a two horse race. I think Kobe should have the edge since he plays in the West, but LeBron is a media darling so I'm not going to be totally surprised if he wins it.
If I had a vote, I'd give it to Kobe. Who you got?
